Do you remember a time before dating online was an option, and our best chances of meeting someone required spending hours in front of the mirror – picking out the perfect outfit, creating the perfect hair style, powdering your face with make-up, all to achieve that casual ‘I just threw this together ’ look for a friend’s party? Do you remember arriving at the party and walking towards the entrance, secretly hoping that for once in your life, this party was just like a scene in a movie and you would meet the love of your life on this very night?
We certainly do… and Joanne and Chris were lucky enough to live this fairy tale after being introduced by a mutual friend; the stuff of rom-coms.
After 11 years of love and laughter together, Joanne’s childhood dreams officially became a reality as she arrived home to see Chris waiting at the door. Chris welcomed her inside, where she was surprised by a trail of rose petals, lit candles and what we can only imagine was some Ed Sheeran playing in the background. Surrounded by fairy lights, Chris got down on one knee and asked Joanne those four unforgettable words – “Will you marry me?” Living in such a romantic moment, how could anyone say no?
When it came to venue hunting, the couple knew that finding a venue which could offer an industrial yet elegant vibe may pose a challenge, but boy did Showtime Event Group have a hidden gem up their sleeve. Joanne and Chris knew as soon as they laid their eyes on our flagship venue; Showtime Events Centre, they had found the perfect venue. The couple hit the jackpot with a venue that was able to host their ceremony and reception in one location. If I am honest, the jackpot was all ours being able to witness such a beautiful day come together.
Once the venue was booked, the dress was next on Joanne’s list. After trying on dress after dress, Joanne hadn’t found THE one. The only solution was to combine all of her favourite elements and find someone who could create her dream dress. We hear that Elly at Elly Louise Bridal is your go to girl to bring your dress dreams to life – of course Joanne agrees.
Now it was Chris’s turn. His love for camouflage allowed him to break tradition and find his dream suit jacket with a subtle camo pattern from Politix. The next step from here was that suppliers were booked one by one, and things were becoming real as they could finally picture their day coming together.
As the excitement was growing, Joanne and Chris were unfortunately hit with some devastating news… They had to postpone the wedding due to COVID-19. Although stressful at the time, the Showtime Event Group team whipped into action and made the process seamless, having many other couples in the same position.
We always say everything happens for a reason, and this terrible news really was a blessing in disguise. The wedding day finally was here and the team couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. The weather was ideal for an outdoor ceremony complete with a glistening Melbourne city backdrop and river views.
Guests were greeted with a cocktail on arrival, a warm welcome from the amazing celebrant; Jane Austin, followed by what we would say is one of the most romantic ceremonies to date. There was not a dry eye in the house after watching Joanne walk down the aisle.
Following the ceremony, guests were enticed with canapes and beverages and a view like none other under the Showtime marquee whilst the couple took some incredible wedding images along the Yarra River.
The styling tied the reception in perfectly with the ceremony, with peach and greenery tones complementing the space and high floral arrangements from one of our personal favourites; Bouquet Melbourne. Of course, finished off with a simple, yet classic cake from Nikos Speciality Cakes.
Once the formalities were done, it was time for guests to kick up their heels and have some fun with the hit band Baker Boys. Now these guys know how to have a good time…
Just when you thought the night couldn’t get any better, expresso martinis and late night snacks were provided, and Joanne left one last trick up her sleeve – stepping up the glam with a change of earrings that stole the show.
After 11 years of love, the stress of having to postpone, to FINALLY being able to say I do, Joanne and Chris were beyond grateful be finally be able to celebrate their wedding day with their nearest and dearest on the dancefloor- a night they surely will not forget.
