January 15th 2019 was a big day for the Library as well as the team from Showtime Event Group, as the Masterchef production crew descended on the Library for a full day of high tension television drama!
Episode 13 of this season in the midst of “Nigella Week” aired last night on Channel 10 and showed the wider Australian public parts of the Library that are both well-known marvels and seldom seen spaces.
The real action though took place in the Library’s brand new and fully equipped commercial kitchen, the home of the Showtime teams excellent Head Chef, Ryan McVeigh who was present in the sidelines on the day, providing his own insight to the on screen kitchen mayhem;
“From the start it was chaotic… because there was so many people as well, probably 30 people at a time, directing contestants what to do, plus the crew cleaning up, plus their own chefs as well and the judges, it was up to 50 people at a time, and that’s too many…”
Service to the Cowen Gallery came from the adjacent North Rotunda with food served by Showtime Event Group staff, a logistical challenge however for untrained chefs. Working within various environments to cook in the kitchen, plate in the Rotunda and send dishes for service, all in a timely manner. Maintaining professionalism, presentation and quality is the aim of the game.
Despite late entrees and undercooked chicken, the Library staff in attendance as well as the Showtime Event Group team were happy to be there and elated to be a part of the whirlwind production.
An exciting glimpse into the beautiful library spaces, with many more opening as a part of Vision 2020 at the end of the year. While also lending some historic knowledge to the contestants delving into the archives the library curates and stores.
The Showtime Event Group team is looking forward to sharing more of the library with you for some of the most exciting events in some of the most historic spaces Australia has to offer.
