The State Library Victoria is the largest and oldest public library in Australia. With over 11 unique event spaces, the most iconic are the historic reading rooms that include the Redmond Barry Reading Room and 108 year old La Trobe Reading Room.
As exclusive event partner and caterer to the State Library, Showtime Event Group often meet the demand to turn these truly impressive venues in to stunning event spaces. But what makes this task so remarkable is the level of precision and team unison to pull off these event sets ups, often with in just one hour.
By day these reading rooms seat over a thousand people across a series of desks, work stations, and reading lounges. Once 6 pm hits and the hordes of people leave the library, Showtime Events Groups team spring in to action replacing furniture with dining tables, installing state of the art AV, and setting the stage for the night’s event.
Since being appointed in August 2018, Showtime Event Group have hosted some very significant events with in the spaces. Including the Welcome Reception for the Professional Conference Organizers Association, the opening night gala event for the Australian Premiere of ‘Come From Away’, and several high end corporate events.
When combining the spaces of Cowen Gallery, Baldwin Spencer, and both reading rooms, an impressive 1,500 guests can be entertained as a standing event, or up to 700 guests for a seated dinner, with a pre drink drinks and dance floor area.
As the library completes its ambitious Vision 2020 project, positing the venue to the next generation, we anticipate the Melbourne landmark becoming home to more iconic events, and regularly transforming historic reading rooms into impressive event spaces.
