A proposal at home

Lefty always wanted his proposal to feel wholesome and authentic, and he definitely met the brief. On Christmas Day, just after the couple had moved into their new home, he popped the question in the living room in front of the tree. “It was simple, heartfelt, and perfect – just the two of us, in the place we were starting our future together,” Ashleigh shares. That afternoon, they celebrated the moment with both families, making it all the more special.

Aerial was always the one

Wedding planning began quickly, and efficiently. “As a teacher, I knew I wanted to make the most of my school holidays,” Ashleigh says. “I set a timeline with all the vendors I needed to book, allowing me to do most of my planning during the holidays.” Within the first three weeks, the couple had secured their photographer, videographer, and DJ/MC.

It all started with the venue. “From the moment we walked into Aerial, we knew. My fiancé saw my face as we stood in the middle of the dancefloor and he just said, yep.” Their Wedding Executive at Showtime Event Group worked with them to create a tailored package and “added some bonuses to sweeten the deal and were very accommodating so we could add the things we wanted and remove what we didn’t.

Bold, colourful and joyful

Ashleigh had always imagined a wedding bursting with colour. “My colour palette was champagne, mauve, baby pink, toffee and lilac,” she says. “I found a pink bridal table from Abra Events and it all started from there!” The look was brought together with purple napkins provided by Showtime Event Group and gold finishes that echoed Aerial’s elegant interiors.

Florals were everlasting — literally. “I wanted to find everlasting florals so I could keep my bouquet forever,” she explains. “When I met Lenny from My Three Stems, her personality was so warm and her work was flawless — it was an easy choice.

A day of attention to detail

For styling, Ashleigh enlisted Abra Events for the reception and worked with Gina from Ghost Photobooth for all the signage. “It was so much fun creating all of the pieces with her! We had each other on WhatsApp so we could message one another whenever we found inspiration.

Ashleigh wore a custom gown by Vicky from Vasiliki Couture who “also created my mum, mother and sister-in-law’s dresses. It was such a fun experience and I’m so glad I got to go on the journey with my mum.” Hair was styled by Hair by Julia, and makeup was done by Stella from SP Make-Up and Victoria from Victoria_Make Partistry. “Stella did my makeup for my engagement and hens. One of my core memories of the day is having a laugh with her in the morning!

The groomsmen wore suits by Prinzi Collections, and each bridesmaid wore a unique espresso-toned gown, sourced from Billy J, Showpo, and Vasiliki Couture. Georgia Eats Cake created the couple’s wedding cake, “her work is flawless.” Stationery was designed by Lettica from Lumii Designs, featuring a wax seal with their initials for a personal touch.

Moments that last forever

Their photographer, Sash from Collections Photography, and DJ/MC, DJ Mikki, were two standout suppliers. “The two most important people on the day are your photographer and DJ/MC — they are in charge of creating all your memories and bringing the vibes,” Ashleigh says. “Sash was our #1 fan on the day, making us laugh and feel comfortable in front of the camera.

As for the most unforgettable moment? “My favourite moment was my first dance,” Ashleigh says. “My dad actually tripped and fell at the bridal table right before our first dance and we were just laughing the whole time. Honestly wish that moment could have lasted forever (the dance — not my dad falling).” They danced to an acoustic version of I Wanna Dance with Somebody, followed by a blast of confetti as it transitioned to the original version. “Sorry, I’m still laughing just thinking about it. There were actual marks on the stage from where he slipped.

Love in reflection: Advice from the happy couple

When asked about one of their favourite parts of the day, Ashleigh was quick to highlight the food. “The curry lamb ribs! O.M.G — they were soooooooo good.” Their Italian-Greek fusion menu delivered by Showtime Event Group featured antipasto, pasta, chicken, steak, and of course — plenty of celebration.

Looking back, her advice is simple: “Give yourself time. It goes so fast and so much is happening, you don’t want to be rushed. Start your ceremony earlier, start your reception later. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

And for the newly engaged? “Planning a wedding is exhausting — you cannot do it on your own. It doesn’t matter about the flowers or the menu or any little details. What matters are the people around you. Dance, laugh and take ALL the photos. Have a person that you share all of your hopes and little moments from the day that you are looking forward to, so they can make sure to make it all happen!
